This was the way in which the Parma prosecutor, on Tg Rai Emilia
Romagna, commented on the Parma line of the investigation on football
betting which has led to three individuals being put under investigation
- close to players and suspected of having been the behind-the-scenes
collectors of the bets - with the charge of criminal association
in relation to under the table betting.
"The association", explained the magistrate, "had
as its social scope that of reaping enormous sums of money in betting
on specific sports competitions even through obvious references
to foreign clubs". Among the players involved, according to
leaks reported by some papers, was even the goalkeeper of the national
team Gianluigi Buffon, though there has not yet been confirmation
of his being included on the list of those investigated. There are,
however, reportedly traces of some of his contacts with at least
one of the three
Parma players investigated: an employee on whose bank account hundreds
of thousands of euros at a time were deposited. The investigation
is said to have started from bank reports.
